What happens when three women—one from advertising, one from finance, and one a physical therapist—come together?
You get Bespoke Mahjong.
The story began during the pandemic, when an unexpected pause created space for something new. Caren, Sheri, and Krista met on the pickleball court, each recovering from injuries earned from playing just a little too much. As the games slowed, something else grew: friendship.
During that time, Caren introduced Sheri and Krista to mahjong—a game she had learned from her mother, affectionately known as the “Mahjong Master,” who had learned it from her own mother before her.
What began as a lesson quickly became a ritual: hours around the table, plenty of laughter, and a tradition passed from one generation to the next.
They were drawn not only to the strategy of mahjong, but to something bigger—the way the game creates connection. With deep roots in China, mahjong has traveled across generations, cultures, and continents while continuing to bring people together around the table. That enduring spirit of connection would become the foundation for everything that followed.
THE “MAGIC TABLE”
One day, Caren played at a friend’s home on an automatic mahjong table—an innovation long embraced in many parts of China. From that moment on, she called it the “Magic Table.”
The experience was seamless, almost mesmerizing, completely changing the rhythm of the game. And it sparked an idea: What if something so functional could also be beautifully designed for the homes and spaces where people gather to play?
Curious and inspired, Caren ordered a table of her own.
When it arrived, she did what came naturally—she called Sheri to play and Krista to help assemble it.
But they never played a single hand.
Once the table was assembled, all three saw the same opportunity: to bring a design-forward perspective to mahjong—one that balanced performance with beauty and innovation with intention.
That moment became the beginning of Bespoke Mahjong.

With Caren’s background in design and start-ups, Sheri’s organizational discipline, and Krista’s expertise in mechanics and logistics, their unlikely combination turned out to be exactly what the idea needed.
They began with automatic tables, exploring materials, form, function, and the overall player experience. Before long, that vision expanded beyond the table into tiles, accessories, and everything needed to create a beautiful game from beginning to end.
From the start, their approach has been deeply hands-on. Whether designing a new collection, taking apart an automatic table to understand exactly how it works, or helping a customer find the right solution, the same philosophy applies:
It should work beautifully. It should look beautiful. And the experience should feel personal.
FROM “MAGIC TABLES” TO BESPOKE MAHJONG
Today, Bespoke Mahjong is a celebration of color, craftsmanship, and joy.
What began with “Magic Tables” has grown into a full collection of mahjong tiles, accessories, and automatic tables sold nationwide, with Bespoke appearing in national publications and on television.
Every piece is created with intention—to complement the experience of play while reflecting the personalities, homes, and people gathered around the table.
From thoughtfully designed automatic tables to playful palettes and elevated accessories, each detail is ultimately an invitation to do one thing:
